Costa Teguise is the northernmost tourist center of Lanzarote and is located about 5 kilometers above the capital Arrecife. It was already decided in 1970 to develop this place as a holiday metropolis. At that time, the canary artist and architect César Manrique was involved intensively in the planning and realization. This is why a holiday resort has been created without concrete bunkers and high-rise buildings, with hotels and apartment complexes that instead preserve the traditional Canarian architecture. The streetscape of Costa Teguise is therefore characterized almost exclusively by two- to a maximum of three-story buildings; these have a flat roof and the island-typical green window frames. The various structures are separated by green areas, parks and numerous palm trees.
The dreamlike beaches of the resort are undoubtedly one of its most beautiful sights. But Costa Teguise also has a lot more to offer. A golf club and the water park “Aquapark” are, for example, in the immediate vicinity. And in addition, you can quickly reach the most interesting sights of the island in no time via the local expressways. For this reason, Costa Teguise is also the central starting point for various organized excursions. As a result, there are countless opportunities available for active holidaymakers to make their stay great. Read this article to find out what makes Costa Teguise so popular, all the things to do there and what you should definitely see.
In a tourist center such as Costa Teguise, there naturally are many operators that offer a wealth of organized excursions and activities. The result is a varied range of different options so that you can give your vacation an active, action-packed or even a relaxed touch. In addition, most of the excursion providers are located directly in town in or very close to Costa Teguise. This means that it is almost certain that the hotel transfer will also be offered for your excursion. Due to the excellent transport connections of the place, even the operators from the south of Lanzarote will pick you up at tour hotel. You can read whether and from where the hotel transfer to the respective excursion takes place in detail in the complete descriptions of our excursions under “Services & Prices”. At the end of this page you will find our overview of all the excursions which either start directly from Costa Teguise, or that include transfer from the hotel and back.

Things to see in Costa Teguise
The Canarian Village of Pueblo Marinero
The Pueblo Marinero probably is the most remarkable attraction of Costa Teguise. It is a small village in the middle of the city. César Manrique wanted to immortalize Canarian culture architecturally with this complex, thus preserving some of the original charm of bygone times. In this area you walk through narrow alleys, with small shops, various restaurants and past houses in typical Canarian style. Countless palm trees provide shade for the walker and there is a pretty pavilion in the central square, Plaza Pueblo Marinero. Small markets are held around the pavilion every Wednesday and Friday until 10 p.m. Here you can buy one or the other Canarian specialty. And don't miss the craft and farmers market on Tuesday mornings.
The Aquarium in Costa Teguise
The Lanzarote Aquarium is considered something very special, because it is one of the largest in the entire Canary Islands. You can experience the lively activity underwater in a total of 33 pools of different sizes. There are also so-called petting basins; the visitors are allowed to touch the fish swimming in there. Its most spectacular attraction, however, is undoubtedly the glass underwater tunnel. As you walk through it, you can see the different sea creatures swimming calmly over your head.
The Seafront Promenade of Costa Teguise
The different beaches of Costa Teguise are connected by a very nice beach promenade. Pretty plantings with palm trees and flowers line their path. Together with the wonderful view over the white beaches and the sea, it offers the walker a real southern flair providing pure holiday feeling. When strolling, some cafes and bars also offer great opportunities for a coffee break or a cool drink to refresh. You can experience particularly impressive moments here in the evenings. Then the sunset conjures glittering reflections on the sea and colors the surroundings in warm shades.
Punta de la Corvina
You will find this impressive stretch of coastline on the northern outskirts of the city. However, you should definitely not go swimming there, because the very strong surf breaks on sharp-edged rocks and is therefore extremely dangerous. But instead, you have an extraordinarily beautiful view along the east coast towards the north from here. It is a wild rugged coastline. On windy days, the waves are brought in so violently here that they smash on the rocks creating enormous fountains.
